On Wednesday morning, Downtown Lafayette is hosting a public forum on downtown parking at Acadiana Center for the Arts.
After a recently announced change to parking meters in Downtown Lafayette, a forum was set up for the public to voice their concerns and opinions. The proposed changes included doubling meter fees and 24/7 monitoring and were supposed to take effect on January 19. DDA says that after a council meeting in late January, the change will not yet be put in place. Itâs more important than ever to open up a dialogue and ensure that stakeholders most impacted by any future changes to parking, including business owners, residents, employees, developers, and visitors, have a chance to share their insights, concerns, and ideas for how to make downtown parking more user-friendly and business-friendly, Downtown Lafayette says.

It is now one week away from Downtown Lafayette s
public forum on downtown parking set for next Wednesday, February 3 at 8:00 am at Acadiana Center for the Arts. Since we opened up the event last Friday, a spokesperson from LCG confirmed that the proposal to raise the hourly parking rates downtown from 50 cents to $1 per hour and increase enforcement to 24 hours a day will not go into effect, a release from downtown officials says. Itâs important now more than ever to open up a dialogue and ensure that stakeholders most impacted by any future changes to parking, including business owners, residents, employees, developers, and visitor, have a chance to share their insights, concerns, and ideas for how to make downtown parking more user-friendly and business-friendly.
Downtown Lafayette Parking Changes Now on Hold
Changes to the Downtown Lafayette parking meter fees, as well as 24/7 monitoring was set to go into effect January 19. Mayor-President Josh Guillory now says those changes are on hold.
Josh Guillory says he made the decision to pause the parking changes after hearing Downtown stakeholder s concerns over the doubling of parking meter fees and 24/7 monitoring.
LCG Chief Communications Officer Jamie Angelle says the meter increase and other changes will likely be revisited in the future .
What those changes may eventually be are as of now uncertain.
As previously reported, the Downtown Development Authority and Downtown Lafayette Unlimited are co-hosting a public forum to discuss the parking changes. The public forum is set to take place Wednesday, February 3 at 8am.
