Intersection of Congress and Guilbeau Now Open

UPDATE Saturday, July 24:Lafayette Consolidated Government says construction at the intersection of Guilbeau Road and West Congress Street is now complete. The intersection has been reopened to traffic. LCG originally said last week the road would reopen this coming Monday. The intersection had been closed one month for construction. - ORIGINAL STORY: It s been a long month for drivers who have had to navigate through the construction project happening on Congress Street at its intersection with Guilbeau Road in Lafayette. Because of the rainy weather we have experienced this summer, a project that began on Monday, June 14th - and was supposed to take three weeks to complete - is still causing traffic issues for drivers passing through, working, or living in that area. Even with a shift in direction for the road work coming out of the weekend, it still makes driving in that area a frustrating experience.

Federal Funds to Fix Curvy, Accident-Prone Roads in Lafayette

As road construction continues in Lafayette Parish, we know that there is still much work to be done to make our roads safer. Many times, when we think of road construction, we think about potholes that need to be fixed or roads that need to be resurfaced. But, what about roads that contain dangerous curves? Curves that make the area more susceptible to crashes, especially when it rains. Five curvy roads have been identified in Lafayette Parish that meet that criteria. According to a press release from Jamie Angelle, Chief Communications Officer for Mayor-President Josh Guillory, money from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and managed by the Louisiana Department of Transportation will address these roads with skid-resistant surface treatments.

AG to Josh Guillory: It s OK to buy coffee for LCG employees

Storyblocks Posted at 3:33 PM, Jul 21, 2021 and last updated 2021-07-21 17:29:17-04 In response to a request from Mayor President Josh Guillory, the Louisiana Attorney General s Office has rendered the opinion that it is OK for government to supply employees with coffee. The four-page opinion states that Public entities may provide their employees with coffee if they have a demonstrable, objective, and reasonable expectation that doing so will provide a real and substantial benefit to the public entity. The assistant attorney general who wrote it opines that providing coffee to employees could be considered a benefit of employment, as are health insurance, retirement, etc. The AAG also opined that a cup of coffee probably doesn t meet the definition of gratuitous. It s the intent of the agency that matters, he wrote.
