The district had announced its plans to start vaccination camps in highrise societies as part of its mega inoculation programme from July 1 and residents’ bodies had decided to hold free sessions with the government. But the programme was postponed after the district faced a shortage of doses in the last week of June. “We had spoken to officials about organising free inoculation camps and we were going to start those from July 5. But they are still facing a shortage of doses and the officials are not being able to confirm when they can start the drive. Representative image NOIDA/GHAZIABAD: Some of the private vaccination centres in Noida and Ghaziabad saw increased footfall over the weekend as shortage of doses halted inoculations at government facilities. The hospitals said more people had come in the first week of July than the last week of June. “We were doing an average of about 100 doses daily. However, in the past few days, we have been vaccinating 100-150 people every day. More people now want to get vaccinated at the earliest but want to avoid crowded centres,” said Dr Dinesh Sharma, director of Kailash Hospital at Greater Noida. Apart from government facilities, the three private centres in Noida that have inoculated the maximum number of people are Kailash, Felix Hospital and Max Superspeciality Centre. The three inoculation sites set up by Felix last Saturday were a drive-through centre, one for walk-ins and another for recipients who had registered in advance. Hospital officials have claimed that the 24x7 drive-in centre was the first such in the country. According to data sourced from the hospital, 9,400 people had received the shots at the three centres in the past one week.
