Heavy rain crippled online deliveries in urban centres, including Delhi and the National Capital Region, swathes of which were flooded by the worst deluge in decades over the weekend. This cut off consumers who have come to depend on them for daily essentials, food and medicine over the past few years and especially since the pandemic.
Heavy rains in urban areas, including Delhi and the National Capital Region, have severely affected online deliveries. The flooding of roads and the overwhelmed drainage system caused delivery services such as Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, and Milk Basket to stop accepting orders. Many consumers, especially those in need of daily essentials, food, and medicine during the pandemic feel cut off. Restaurants are also facing severe disruption, with kitchen operations, supplies, and dine-ins being hampered as well.
With the drainage system overwhelmed, roads were inundated with water at waist height and more. Most delivery services such as Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Blinkit and Milk Basket stopped taking orders as large clusters were unserviceable. Elsewhere, there were extended delays, said executives at ecommerce platforms, besides grocery and restaurant companies.
Zomato share price target: Nomura India finds the stock worth Rs 45, as it feels achieving high gross order value (GOV) growth and strong contribution margin improvement in core food delivery business remain challenging
