Jan 15, 2021 Four students of the AuTrain-Onota School participated in the recent DAR American History Contest chaired by Onagomingkway Chapter Chair Sarah Smart. Eighth grader Noah Linne, seventh grader Zoe Marcotte, and sixth grader Isaac Merryman all received a Bronze Medal for winning their grade level. Wyatt Merryman also participated. All four students also took home a certificate and cash prize. The topic this year was “The Boston Massacre” to recognize the 250th anniversary of the event which started the American Revolution. These essays won at the chapter level and will go on to judging at state level. This year’s topic, “The Boston Massacre,” recognizes the 250th anniversary of the event that plunged the thirteen colonies into the American Revolution. Pictured standing are Noah Linne, 8th grade winner and Zoe Marcotte, 7th grade winner; with Isaac Merryman, 6th grade winner, and 8th grade participant Wyatt Merryman. The winners received bronze medals and all took home a certificate and cash prize. The DAR American History Essay Contest is open to all fifth through eighth grade students in public, parochial, private and home school situations.
