To the building as we speak but if you take a look at the fire you can see how big and intense it was early in the morning. The this is around 1 00 when fire call came in on the 600 block of sweet street here in norristown. This Apartment Building is call the norris. It has 30 units inside. Fire units a had to work to get everybody out they went through this building meticulously to do that but one person was found unresponsive, taken out of the building treated by e ms on the scene. But later died at the hospital. That person has in the been identified this morning. But this fire grew very fast and fire crew as arrived they saw heavy smoke and heavy fire. They quickly extended this to a four a alarm fire and again multiple rescues had to take place. We will look at the video you can see traumatic rescues that unfolded in front of the eye. Thats slow moving near girard avenue heading into center city philadelphia. The big problem is in norristown with a massive fire out there. Well have more in a second so stick with us. Right now swede street is closed in addition to other closures marshall street is blocked off near dekalb and markley. Airy street is closed between swede and barbadoes. The courthouse is a up colecouple blocks away. As a result bus routes 90 96 98 and 131 are on detour. Breaking news from overnight, skyforce 130 over0 over the scene of a deadly Apartment Fire. Three people were hurt including a firefighter. Others were forced out into the cold. In the meantime fire investigators remain here on the scene. We can tell you they are examining the rear of the structure, believing preliminarily that the fire began in the rear near a trash dumpster. Now firefighters took about 6 1 2 hours to totally extinguish the flames. Close to two dozen people are now homeless. The hallway was just pitch black with smoke and as soon as you took a breath of air, your lungs filled with fire it felt like. Reporter thats when he realized he couldnt escape the raging inferno without the assistance of firefighters.
