Mailbag: Starting O-line combinations, Shep in slot?

Copied! Robert in New York: Who will be the starting offensive linemen if the roster holds and all of them are healthy to start the season? John Schmeelk: The two easy starters to predict are Andrew Thomas at left tackle and Nick Gates at center. It gets more interesting after that. Right tackle will likely be a straight-up two-man competition between Matt Peart and Nate Solder. The preference would be for Matt Peart to win that competition and he will be given every opportunity to do so. Perhaps, Solder starts the season and Peart gets rotated in a lot until he eventually takes the job.

It s Put Up or Shut Up Time for Daniel Jones After Giants Load Up Their Offense

Comments Gail Burton/Associated Press The phrase three-and-out is used to describe a football drive that features no first downs and a punt, but it could also generally apply to the NFL s patience when it comes to quarterbacks on rookie contracts.  The New York Jets just gave up on 2018 No. 3 overall pick Sam Darnold after exactly three seasons, and fellow 2018 first-rounder Josh Rosen lasted just one season with the Arizona Cardinals. The Chicago Bears pulled the plug on 2017 No. 2 overall pick Mitchell Trubisky on multiple occasions in his first three campaigns before benching him from Weeks 3 to 10 in the fourth year. And the Washington Football Team bailed on 2019 first-rounder Dwayne Haskins just 13 starts into his professional career.

8 free agents Giants could still target after NFL Draft, including Trai Turner

8 free agents Giants could still target after NFL Draft, including Trai Turner Posted May 09, 2021 Former Carolina Panthers offensive guard Trai Turner is still available in free agency. (Rick Scuteri, Associated Press) Facebook Share The Giants just added six players to their roster through the NFL Draft, and all told that’ll cost them around $3 million in cap space. So that should leave the team with about $2 million in space to spare. That’s not a whole lot, especially since it’s important to go into the season with some room in the event of injuries to key players. They can still create more space through restructures, cuts or trades, which they’d likely need to do if they wind up adding anymore free agents between now and the start of training camp.

Big Blue View mailbag: Post-2021 NFL Draft edition

Big Blue View mailbag: Post-2021 NFL Draft edition The mail’s here! Jason Robbins asks: This week, Judge comes out and says that Jones’ injury was “much worse than what the team told the public.” It seems as if he is telling everyone now because he wants the public to understand how tough Jones is and what a great teammate Jones is. My problem is I never questioned how tough he was or what kind of teammate he was. By all accounts, his toughness and his character were always two of his strongest attributes. I did, however, question was why he played so poorly in the games after he returned from injury. I questioned whether he was healthy enough to play. Now, Judge’s comments only confirm that he was not healthy to play. If last year’s play before the injury gave the team confidence that Jones was their QB of the future, why did they play Jones when he had a very severe injury? Was risking his long term health worth the risk? His strong play was largely due to his mob
