Huskies Hang on for Win on Senior Night
The Owatonna High School baseball team closed out their home regular season schedule with a thrilling 4-3 victory over New Ulm on Senior Night. OHS broke a 3-3 tie with a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth. The Huskies preserved that lead by throwing out a runner at home in the top of the seventh.
The Eagles left two runners on base in their final at bat with Huskies Payton Beyer on the mound. He pitched the final two innings, striking out four. Brayden Truelson tossed the first five frames, allowing six hits while striking out six and not walking a batter.
Owatonna Lacrosse Sweeps Big Nine Titles
The Owatonna High School girls lacrosse team clinching the Big Nine title Saturday, in essence repeating as conference champs after winning the title in 2019 and having no season in 2020. They also won the championship in 2018. The Huskies went 5-0 in games that counted toward the standings this spring. A recent loss to Century was a non-conference game as the Huskies won the first meeting.
The OHS boys wrapped up the league title a couple of weeks ago, going 4-0 in conference games. There is a one fewer boys team in the Big Nine as Century is together with John Marshall as a coop this season. The Huskies boys last won the title in 2018.

The countdown to the Steele County Free Fair drops below 100 days this weekend, August 17-22 in Owatonna. Last May when the event was canceled the Countdown to the Fair clock at www.scff.org was set a staggering 455 days. Fair manager Scott Kozelka said on a recent Fair Talk broadcast, I ve never felt better.
