Huskies Hang on for Win on Senior Night The Owatonna High School baseball team closed out their home regular season schedule with a thrilling 4-3 victory over New Ulm on Senior Night. OHS broke a 3-3 tie with a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth. The Huskies preserved that lead by throwing out a runner at home in the top of the seventh. The Eagles left two runners on base in their final at bat with Huskies Payton Beyer on the mound. He pitched the final two innings, striking out four. Brayden Truelson tossed the first five frames, allowing six hits while striking out six and not walking a batter.

Depleted Huskies Can t Catch Tigers in Wrestling Tournament

The defending Section 1AAA Owatonna wrestlers couldn t make up for four forfeits despite winning five of the last six match-ups in Wednesday s section semifinals against Albert Lea at OHS. The sixth-seeded Tigers won the dual 38-33 over the second-seeded Huskies and advance to face top-seed Northfield Saturday at New Prague High School. The winner will then compete right away in the state quarterfinals against the Section 2AAA champ. Albert Lea led 11-0 after the first two weights. Owatonna s Cael Robb and Jake Gronli won back-to-back matches to pull the Huskies within 11-8. But a pin followed by three forfeits left OHS behind 35-8.

Late Pin Not Enough for Tonna Wrestlers

Owatonna senior wrestler Abe Stockwell, in addition to the team bench, was pumped after pinning his opponent to pull the Huskies into a 32-32 tie with Watertown-Mayer Friday night. After several minutes however, the mode among the Huskies dipped as the Royals earned the win on criteria. It took a discussion at the scorer s table to determine the winner. Each team won seven matches. Each team had three pins. Watertown-Mayer had a tech fall win and OHS did not, giving the Royals the win and leaving the Huskies with a split on the night. Owatonna beat Mankato West 70-12 to open the night s tri.
