An FIR has been registered against controversial preacher Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati for calling for the demolition of madrasas and the Aligarh Muslim University.
A petition seeking arrest of Yati Narsinghanand and Jitendra Tyagi (formerly Waseem Rizvi) on the ground that they have been making calls of violence against Muslims, was rejected by the Supreme Court on Friday.
The court also allowed petitioners to serve copies of the new applications filed against similar events planned in Himachal Pradesh on the Himachal government.
Immediately after walking out of the Haridwar district jail on Thursday, Narsinghanand proceeded to Sarvanand ghat to resume his hunger strike demanding the release of co-accused in the case, Jitendra Narayan Tyagi, formerly known as Waseem Rizvi.
Narsinghanand was arrested in connection with the case on January 15, nearly a month after he organised a Dharma Sansad in Haridwar, where calls for genocide were made.
