A female teacher disarmed the girl and held her until law enforcement arrived and took her into custody, authorities said, without giving other details. Authorities say they re investigating the motive for the attack and where the girl got the gun. We don t have a lot of details at this time of ‘why that is being investigated, Anderson said. We re following all leads.
The girl is from the nearby city of Idaho Falls, Anderson said. He didn t release her name.

Shooting at Idaho middle school injures 3; student captured
Authorities say a shooting at an eastern Idaho middle school has injured two students and a custodian, and a student suspected of being the shooter has been taken into custody
BOISE, Idaho A shooting at an eastern Idaho middle school Thursday injured two students and a custodian, and a student was taken into custody, authorities said.
The victims injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, Jefferson County Sheriff Steve Anderson said.
Police were called to the school around 9:15 a.m. after students and staffers heard gunfire. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded, and students were evacuated to a nearby high school to be reunited with their parents.
Students comforted each other as the events unfolded inside a school where 1,500 students in sixth through eighth grades attend. We were freaking out a few kids were crying. Some kid was sitting next to me I was trying to rub his back, make him feel better, Maren King, a seventh grader, told Local News 8. Moments before, Maren thought the noises were the school principal s attempt to make a lockdown drill seem more realistic.
Lucy Long also comforted her friends as they lined up against a wall, locked down in their classroom. The sixth-grader told the Post Register newspaper in Idaho Falls that she began recording on her phone so police would know what happened if the shooter came in.
RIGBY â A sixth-grade girl brought a gun to her middle school, shot and wounded two students and a custodian and then was disarmed by a teacher, authorities said.
The three were shot in their extremities during the 9:15 a.m. Thursday incident at Rigby Middle School and are expected to survive, officials said at a Thursday afternoon news conference. All three victims were transported via ambulances to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls following the shooting.
âToday we had the worst nightmare a school district could encounter,â Jefferson School District Superintendent Chad Martin said Thursday following the incident.
