We do take hate crimes very seriously at the Oakland Police department and the city of oakland. We are a city that stands united against hate and hate crimes. We are investigating this particular crime as a hate crime. Reporter security guards and Oakland Police were stationed at the temple the whole day. Officers have stepped up patrols at other temples throughout the city. Temple members and visitors say they are repulsed by the hateful messages as they welcome in their new year.
