TECUMSEH Another Tecumseh school board seat has been vacated, this time due to post-election procedures not being met.
Becky Brooks’ seat on the board has been vacated due to her not taking the oath of office and paperwork about taking the oath not being on file with the Lenawee County Clerk’s Office, Tecumseh Superintendent Rick Hilderley announced during Monday’s board meeting. Brooks was re-elected in November and was the board’s secretary.
This is the second seat on the Tecumseh school board that has been vacated in the past month. Kevin Johnson, who was the board’s president, was removed from the board after it was discovered his appointment was not made within the 30 days after a resignation last fall as required by state law. TECUMSEH A missed email, a decision to reconsider a resignation and a state law that does not allow resignations to be rescinded led the Tecumseh school board to miss a 30-day window to fill a vacancy on the board last fall.
Tecumseh Public Schools board president Kevin Johnson’s position was invalidated Tuesday after an investigation into the appointment process the board followed during the resignation of former board member Milton Abbott last year.
