Gunmen Raid Home of Bishop-Elect in South Sudan, Shooting Him Twice

Two gunmen broke into the home of Bishop-elect Christian Carlassare in Rumbek, South Sudan, early Monday, shooting him twice in the legs.
The assault occurred sometime between midnight and 2:00 a.m. and is believed to have been meant as a warning to the prelate, who is being transported to Nairobi for treatment.
On March 8, Pope Francis appointed Carlassare bishop of Rumbek, and he is due to be ordained bishop on May 23 to become, at age 43, the youngest Italian bishop in the world.
Prior to his present post, Carlassare served as a missionary and spent fifteen years working with members of the Nuer, the second-largest ethnic group in the country.
Security officer arrested for kidnapping Sudanese trader in Rumbek
A man identified as Daniel Sebit from the National Security Service in Rumbek has been arrested for kidnapping a Sudanese businessman and demanding ransom, authorities said.
The Sudanese businessman, Adom Bara, was kidnapped on the night of 29 March from his home in Rumbek town and was kept for more than 20 days in the bushes of Wulu County by his kidnaper.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Wednesday, the acting minister of information and communication in Lakes State, William Kocji Kerjok, confirmed the incident but said the Sudanese businessman was rescued on Tuesday by the National Security.
Calm returns to Rumbek East as security forces deploy
Authorities in Lakes State have said that calm has returned to Rumbek East County after security forces were deployed to contain sectional clashes in the area.
Renewed inter-communal clashes between the Gony and Thuyic over the weekend left 23 people dead and 20 wounded. The fighting happened in the Manyang-rel cattle camp of Rumbek East County on Saturday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Monday, the caretaker state minister for information and communication, William Kocji Kerjok, confirmed that calm has returned in Rumbek East County following a heavy deployment of security forces to contain the violence.
