Calm returns to Rumbek East as security forces deploy
Authorities in Lakes State have said that calm has returned to Rumbek East County after security forces were deployed to contain sectional clashes in the area.
Renewed inter-communal clashes between the Gony and Thuyic over the weekend left 23 people dead and 20 wounded. The fighting happened in the Manyang-rel cattle camp of Rumbek East County on Saturday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Monday, the caretaker state minister for information and communication, William Kocji Kerjok, confirmed that calm has returned in Rumbek East County following a heavy deployment of security forces to contain the violence.
Pregnant woman commits suicide in Lakes State
Police in Rumbek East County of Lakes State confirmed that a pregnant woman identified as Abok Majur Bech took her own life in Cueigakteng Payam on Sunday morning.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the deputy commissioner of police in Rumbek East County, Brigadier Makur Dak, said investigations had commenced into the death of the deceased whose husband also died recently. According to the investigation from close relatives, it is said that the wife had always been complaining that her late husband who was recently killed in a road ambush while rescuing raided cattle from neighboring Yirol West County used to appear to her in dreams at night when she was sleeping. The residents of Rumbek East County, Cueigakteng Payam on Thursday morning woke up to a rude shock when they found the body of a teenage girl hanging on a rope.
The 13-year-old girl, Akuwei Khor Nyiduar, a resident of Timbar village was allegedly chided by her parents after they found her in possession of a phone. The parents caught her up with a phone. She was beaten and her phone was taken by her brothers. But later on, she hanged herself to death, Elijah Mabor Makuac, Lakes State police spokesperson said.
Rumbek East: Two warring communities make peace, agree to graze cattle together
The two warring communities of Kok-Awac and Pacuer resolved and agreed to coexist peacefully and share the Pulkuc cattle camp in Rumbek East County of Lakes State.
