It’s hard to believe, but this summer marks ten amazing years since the launch of ETF Prime.
Some already know the backstory, but the podcast actually began as a local radio show in Kansas City. Its roots go back to early 2011 when I found myself in a packed Starbucks discussing ETFs with a business acquaintance. Even though ETFs had been around since 1993, we were debating whether the average person even knew what an ETF was.
After one too many cups of coffee, I decided to settle the argument. I approached the nearest person and simply asked, “Have you ever heard of an ETF?”

Widely regarded as ‘the father of modern finance’, Eugene Fama’s work is highly regarded in the capital markets. His work is also the basis for Canadian firm SmartBe Wealth’s four new ETFs.
Fama’s work in portfolio theory, asset pricing, and efficient markets eventually earned him the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences jointly with Robert J. Shiller and Lars Peter Hansen in 2013. In 2019, the Research Papers in Economics project considered Fama the 9th-most influential economist of all-time.
Needless to say, Fama has quite the resume and it’s not a bad place to start for ETF strategies. The ETFs utilize factor-based strategies, namely momentum and value.
Some health departments and hospitals canceled appointments after receiving no additional vaccine doses this week.

After exhausting their vaccine supplies and receiving few, if any, new doses from the state, many local health departments and hospitals in North Carolina are struggling this week to administer COVID-19 vaccines.
Some have been forced to cancel scheduled vaccination appointments, a move health officials fear could further erode public confidence in a vaccine rollout already marked by delays and uncertainties.
“It undermines their trust in us locally, and that is probably the biggest loss of all of this,” Onslow County Health Director Kristen Richmond-Hoover said. She estimated her department has canceled or rescheduled around 1,600 appointments after Onslow County received fewer-than-expected doses this week from the state health department.

VOICEOVER: This is Masters in Business with Barry Ritholtz on Bloomberg Radio.
BARRY RITHOLTZ, HOST, MASTERS IN BUSINESS: This week on the podcast, I have an extra special guest. His name is Sebastien Page, he is the head of multi-asset investing at investing giant T. Rowe Price. They run about $1.3 trillion, he runs about $360 billion of it. This really is a master class on asset allocation, diversification, risk management, and the concept of expected returns versus expected risk. As it turns out, it’s easier to predict risk than it is to predict returns. I don’t know what else I can say about this other than if you are an asset allocator, a wealth manager, anybody who’s thinking about managing assets over the next 10, 20, 30 years, then you are going to find this to be an absolutely fascinating conversation.
