All Senior class students attending Wayne County Illinois high schools will have the opportunity to participate in the student class trip to Washington D.C. for the first time in four years. The last time 12th graders from Cisne, Fairfield, and Wayne City High Schools were able to take this annual trip to D.C was April, 2019, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year's trip will be extended by an extra day for the first time, allowing the students to also tour Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, the amazing home and property of America's third President near Charlottesville, VA. This new feature will be part of the return trip home, following the Seniors' experience of many of the highlights of our Nation's Capital. This upcoming student trip is scheduled for April 20th - April 24th, 2023. The Bernard and Naomi L. The Fairfield City Council will meet in regular session at 6pm Tuesday, September 27th at City Hall. Petitions for the Consolidated Election to be held on April 4, 2023, are now available in the office of City Clerk Tina Hutchcraft. A Mayor will be elected for a two-year term to fill the unexpired term of Mayor Mike Dreith, and one alderman from each of the city's four wards will be elected for a four-year term. Petition circulation began on September 20th. Filing period for petitions is December 12th through December 19th. The City Clerk's Office hours are 7am to noon and 1pm to 4pm Monday through Friday. The Wayne County Historical Society monthly meeting will be tonight at 6 in the Fairfield Library meeting room. A short business meeting will be followed by a discussion with Judith Puckett of the Local Landmarks Project and Country Churches Project. Members and guest are welcome. Edwards County Treasurer Debbie Smith says the due date for the first installment of 2020 payable 2021 Real Estate Taxes is November 30th, and the second installment is due by December 30th. The total extension this year is $6,276,962. Last year's was $6,443,317.14. Payment may be made in person, by mail, or in the drop box in front of the cell tower on the northeast side of the courthouse. People can also pay online with a credit or debit card at govtechtaxpro.com, though a 2.5 percent fee will be added for the credit card company. Two people were sentenced to prison in Wayne County Circuit Court recently. 37-year-old Fairfield resident Shaun D. Carl pleaded guilty last week to a Class 3 felony count of possession of less than five grams of meth. Judge William Hudson sentenced him to seven years in prison. 39-year-old Mt.
