Frontier Community College will hold a Student/Parent Information Night, or SPIN event, this Wednesday night. SPIN will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Workforce Development Center. Students and parents will learn firsthand about FCC's programs and degrees, per Coordinator of Recruitment Carrie Halbert. J. Conrad "Connie" Allen, 95, formerly of Wayne City, IL, passed away Friday, February 11, 2022. He was born February 07, 1927 in a small house in Fairfield, IL. He married Betty Lou Johnson October 19, 1948 in Mt. Vernon, IL at a private ceremony performed by a local pastor. Shortly after graduating from Wayne City High School, Connie was called to honorably serve his country in World War 2. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for the duration of his service. After returning from the service, he earned a bachelor's degree from McKendee College in Lebanon, IL. He later returned to school and received a Master's in Education Administration from Washington University in St. Louis. Connie spent decades molding young minds as a teacher, coach, principal and later superintendent at Wayne City High School, until his retirement in 1983. The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 23,246 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease in Illinois, including 198 additional deaths. Illinois has had only 2 days during the pandemic with more deaths, both occurred on December of 2020. The IDPH reported 59 new cases of COVID-19 in Wayne County last week. Case numbers in Edwards County jumped by 21, Wabash County by 60, and Hamilton County by 25. Richland County cases increased by 91, Lawrence County by 80, and White County by 46. Marion and Jefferson counties had the biggest jumps in the immediate area at 142 and 99 cases, respectively. As a state, Illinois announced 23,246 new cases and 198 deaths. Statewide totals sat at 2,732,720 cases and 29,708 deaths. The Southern Region had a seven-day positivity rate of 18.9 percent on the 17th, up from 17.7 percent on the 16th. The Wayne County Health Department announced 41 new cases of COVID-19 from Monday through Thursday, bringing its total to 3,295; 114 people were in isolation. Hamilton County added six cases yesterday and sat at 1,390; one person was hospitalized, and 22 were in isolation. Jefferson County reported 24. The state Department of Public Health announced 11,524 new cases yesterday and 40 additional deaths. Statewide totals sat at 1,827,518 cases and 26,499 deaths.
