The sides are facing a midnight deadline to reach a deal over courtordered changes to measure b, the controversial pension reform package. The unions say pension cuts brought on by measure b are driving down staff levels especially in the Police Department. What it should be is what was many, many years ago is 1,400. And its not even close. And every day that we sit here at this table and not have an agreement another cop walks out the door. The sides have been trying to work out differences for more than four months. If they dont reach a deal both can start appealing changes. Police departments everywhere are adding body cameras to their arsenal. This afternoon san jose became latest department to say it is turning on officer video recorders. Vic lee is live at the San Jose Police department where he has gotten a look at the new cameras. They are very light and actually smaller than your iphone. You also have live view capabilities. Of course, new technology has made all of this possible. There is still Old Fashioned questions over the protocols for the use of these cameras. After years of pilot programs the body cams were deemed too expensive and too unwieldy. Now San Jose Police say they will roll them out and are ready to begin field testi cameras made by two companies. The more common model worn at chest level and one like this. This is what is called a pov camera mounted on a pair of eye glasses. You are looking at a live view from an iphone. 15 officers will wear these cameras. The field tests will last for 12 weeks. Each officer will complete surveys, the information evaluated before cameras are bought. We will be moving forward comparing and contrasting the number of citizen complaints in comparison to prior statistics. Mayor promised to fund body cams and the city already has protocols for officers to follow which the police union helped draft. Body cameras are going to shine a lot of light on work that Police Officers do every day. There are questions of transparency in that Community Groups were not consulted in writing those policies. One concern officers can turn off cameras if they decide there is no further investigative value in continuing. Independent auditor. And officers determination that innocent is maybe not over but not worthy of being recorded is something that should not be left to the officers discretion. In Red Wood City detectives believe there could be more victims of an acpuncturest accused of sexual assault. He is out on bail following arrests on monday. Last month the woman says the doctor touched her inappropriately during a massage session. The patient said the touching came after a series of sessions. Detectives say they have evidence of the crime and are encouraging other possible victims to come forward. This individual did have a practice and advertising on the internet. Reporter the arraignment is set for august. In Palo Alto Police are stepping up patrols after two reports of late night prowlers in a week. The first one was last week. The other happened yesterday on emerson street. In the most recent incident around 1 30 in the morning a woman says she notessed a strange man looking inside a window and banging on another window. The other incident was around 11 30 at night. Police do not think the cases are related. In the multiyear drought there are tough new rules for lawns in california. A new restriction stating drought tolerant plans must be used for homes and businesses. Governor brown ordered Water Resources department to increase landscaping restrictions as part of his executive order in april. Homeowners say they will adapt to new changes. The drought is hitting one community especially hard. The town has banned all outdoor watering. People are being asked to cut water use by 25 . The county gets its water from the canal. Governor jerry brown signed a measure to make sure cheerleaders are compensated for their work. The law states cheerleaders are entitled to earning minimum wage and overtime. Cheerleaders said mandatory practices and appearances were unpaid. This law goes into effect next year. San francisco voters will see a measure on the November Ballot for a proposal to stop the construction of luxury houses. The measure would suspend the development of market rate housing for 18 months. The plan proposes 50 of all units must be priced below market rate. The Sheriffs Office said the only issue was that some of the inmates ended up being late for court. Four San Francisco men including two here have been arrested accused of illegally growing hundreds of marijuana plants. Investigators found 672 plants and two grams. Officials also say the electric line to the warehouse was broken. All four men face charges of illegally growing and selling marijuana. In berkeley the project of inspecting balconies. The Senate Education committee today advanced a bill to create new requirements for campuses to implement Student Success fees. New requirements include a Student Election or consultation to approve the fees. A dozen have fees with some students paying as much as 2,000. The largest City Workers Union in oakland is asking members to authorize a strike.
