Updates in five minutes. Today the deadly accident for a crew along highway 17. Two workers were hit by a dump truck on the closed portion of this highway. Witnesses describe a chaotic scene. Michelle . Reporter really sad day here we now know that a 53yearold was killed in this accident. It happened right behind me. Investigators are still on scene trying to figure out what happened here but we do know a truck driver reversed hitting two of his coworkers. Its absolutely tragic. Its very sad. Reporter the truck in the Construction Zone near the mudslide along highway 17 struck two employees of granite Rock Construction who were working to clear the mudslide. He has confirmed a 53yearold man was killed at the scene and say his coworker 34yearold steven wittier from san jose was rushed to valley medical center. He was pinned under one of these large vehicles. They transported him rightway. Reporter it took emergency crews about 15 minutes to pull him out from under the truck. Were told h

Hes fine but this is what he has to deal with now. Such a treacherous situation out there. Reporter you can still see the rain pouring down here tonight and thats raising concern that more mud could be sliding down the hillside here. Its crashed into this home which is now deemed unsafe. If you take a look over here, you can see all of the muddy water going downhill and now a second home has been yellow tagged. Standing inside of his now destroyed bathroom, paul heard it. Started coming over the emergency spillway. The emergency spillway is just dirt and rocks. And with all the pressure from the water level so high. The concern. Especially yesterday. Was that the dirt and rock could collapse. And that would mean a 30 foot wall of water would come charging down this dirt hill. Some into the feather river. But tons and tons would keep coming downstream. Flooding towns as far south as marysville. 30 miles south of the lake. We are also now learning. That environmentalists raised concerns ayears ago about the stability of the emergency spillway at the oroville dam. But state officials insisted. The structure was safe.
