Three KCII area boys and girls golf teams met at the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort Thursday in a non-conference triangular when Mid-Prairie, Highland and Lone Tree squared off. In the boys competition, Mid-Prairie won the team title with a score of 179, their lowest recorded team score on the season. The Golden Hawks had the meet medalist and medalist runner-up with Dominic McCain shooting a 40 and Warren Scarff a 44. Those two spoke after the meet about their day. “First hole I drew my ball over to the left side of the fairway. From there I was able to wedge it up there within about 20 feet on the second tier of the green. I was able to hit the putt, dead center of the cup. I have never trusted my putter more than I have on that shot.” “For me, I wouldn’t say there wasn’t one specific shot or hole, I played pretty decent all the way around today. I pared one and two and eight. I had a double bogey in there, and the rest were bogeys so it worked out.”

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks finished seventh of 14 competing teams with their total of 389. West Branch won the team title with a 325. Dominic McCain led Mid-Prairie with a round of 82. The senior finished fourth overall and was named Elite River Valley Conference, he talked with KCII sports after the meet about the day and accomplishment. “I just made putts today. Something I had not done in the past. Making all-conference is something I have been pushing for. Sophomore year I came out here and shot 95 and missed all-conference by five strokes. Then junior year didn’t happen. So this was my last shot to get what I wanted. I came out and did it and shot my best round ever here.”
