FAIRFIELD The Walter Fitzgerald Campus was placed on lockdown after reports of a possible weapon at the school, officials said Thursday afternoon.
The Fairfield Police School Safety Unit and Walter Fitzgerald High School administrators put a shelter in place in effect around 8:15 a.m. Thursday after police and school officials learned of an incident that occurred on school property Wednesday afternoon, Police Lt. Antonio Granata said.
A Walter Fitzgerald student told school officials they were the victim in an altercation that happened on school grounds during the school day on Wednesday.

JOHNSTOWN The Fulton County Board of Supervisors on Monday appointed the two major parties’ election commissioners to two-year terms, including a new Democratic Party commissioner.
The appointments were on the recommendations of each party’s formal committees, and terms run until Dec. 31, 2022.
Supervisors appointed G. Jeremiah Ryan of Gloversville as Fulton County Board of Elections’ Democratic election commissioner. He replaces John Zawadzki. The vote for Ryan was 18-1, with Republican Northampton Supervisor James Groff voting no.
Long-time Republican Election Commissioner Lee Hollenbeck of Broadalbin was also reappointed.
County Administrative Officer Jon Stead told the board during its online meeting that it was acting on very last-minute resolutions.

FAIRFIELD, CT Fairfield s plan to buy a 12-acre property in Southport is moving forward, as three town bodies voted Monday to set aside more than $5 million for the purchase and initial site improvements.
The property at 309 Barberry Road was formerly home to Giant Steps School. The town intends to turn it into the new location of the Water Fitzgerald Campus alternative high school, although much of the site would remain available for a range of other possible uses.
The Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance and Representative Town Meeting all approved the issuance of $5.1 million in 20-year bonds to fund the endeavor.
