NEW DELHI: A dispute relating to a small piece of land in the remote Sitapur village of Surguja district in Chhattisgarh, purportedly bought for Rs 100 in the year 1963, had been continuing to engage the three-tier justice delivery system for decades till the Supreme Court drew curtains over it on Thursday. A bench of Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justices A S Bopanna and Hrishikesh Roy told the petitioner Virendra Kumar Singh that it appreciated his tenacity in fighting a case that had no merits and that he could be rewarded by imposition of cost for wasting judicial time of all courts.

Officials said they had been receiving panic calls from residents as any dead bird on the road has been arousing fear of the flu. They appealed to people not to draw any conclusions, pointing out there had been no reports of bird flu in Delhi-NCR so far.

Additional District Judge Chandrabhanu Singh on Saturday held the six people guilty of abducting the boy and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of them. The government advocate also said that a case of kidnapping was registered based on the complained lodged by the boy s cousin. The minor was found from Gopal Nagar, he said.
