After being closed since last March due to the coronavirus pandemic, as of today, Silver City’s beloved playground, Penny Park, is finally open to the public again, according to Town Manager Alex Brown. “We waited until the schools got the green light for [limited] in-person learning,” Brown said, adding that when town officials made the decision last May to reopen municipal parks and outdoor recreation sites like Fox Field and Scott Park Golf Links in accordance with Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s easing of coronavirus restrictions, they opted to keep playgrounds off-limits.
