Douglas Dinwiddie gives a tour Saturday afternoon at the Fort Bayard Museum, which details the history of the national historic landmark located just north of Santa Clara.
Tours of the Fort Bayard Museum, which are organized by the Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society, have been on hiatus for the past year, as much of the state shut down due to COVID-19 but as of two weeks ago, they are back on schedule, according to Douglas Dinwiddie, Ph.D., historian and tour guide.
“We are happy to be back and running and welcoming visitors again,” he said. “We have lots of ambitious plans in the coming year or two.”

The back door of the Fort Bayard Museum, showing damage from vandalism that apparently took place sometime Friday night. Luckily, damage seems to have been limited to the door, and there was no other apparent damage, or items missing from the museum’s interior.
Sometime Friday night, the window was smashed in the back door to the museum at Fort Bayard located inside one of the Victorian-style homes that were built to house the officers of the fort. While the door was heavily damaged, that may have been the extent of the property loss, according to officials.
Santa Clara reorganizes code, boosts utility rates Written by Makayla Grijalva on January 20, 2021
During their regular meeting Thursday, Santa Clara’s village trustees approved amendments to municipal code chapters on public utilities that the village has been refining for the past few months. While the revisions do include a utility rate increase, touted as accounting for the increase in cost of living, last week’s move mainly took already existing ordinances and compiled them into a single resource.
※A great deal of work went into this a lot of research, a lot of background. I want to commend out legal counsel for doing such a tremendous job,” said Santa Clara Mayor Richard Bauch. ※It’s taken a great deal of time to put it all together, but I think we have a document that’s optimal for the village.”
