NOIDA: What was supposed to be a solution for pollution, has now become a liability.
The vertical gardens set up in Noida’s sectors 15, 16 and 18 and along the Kalindi Kunj bridge three years ago to boost the aesthetics of the city and help curb pollution are dying because of neglect. The reason currently, there are no caretakers to water the plants.
Environmentalists say such gardens can become a source of pollution themselves if not maintained properly. Authority officials claim the private agency responsible for the upkeep of these gardens has been dismissed and the maintenance will soon be handed over to the gardeners of the horticulture department.

Pandemic has grounded the State’s economy to a halt, it tells Supreme Court
The Haryana government has appealed to the Supreme Court to permit it to resume mining in the Aravalli Hills on the grounds that the pandemic had grounded the State’s economy to a halt. The Supreme Court is slated to hear the petition on Thursday.
Mining in the region has been banned since 2002 under the Supreme Court orders, unless expressly permitted by the Union Environment Ministry. However, mining continued illegally.

NOIDA: Environmentalists and birders have raised an alarm over the construction of a structure in the middle of the forest area of the Okhla Bird Sanctuary.
Though construction activity is banned in the sanctuary that enjoys the status of a protected wildlife zone, the forest department has said it’s “just a campsite” and will be built anyway.
Birders have, however, urged that the structure be at least shifted to the buffer zone next to the crematorium area at the northern end of the sanctuary aligned with the DND flyway so that the avian habitat is not impacted by human activity. Work at the site started sometime last week.
