Briefs SCARBOROUGH Scarborough student receives scholarship for families impacted by cancer Kristen Caldwell of Scarborough has been selected as a recipient of Northwestern Mutual’s Childhood Cancer Sibling Scholarship. She is among 42 other students nationwide to be recognized for the impact childhood cancer had on them as either a survivor or sibling. Each has received a $5,000 renewable scholarship to help with financial support to attend college. Caldwell was impacted by her sister’s diagnosis of stage four ovarian cancer in 2016. During that time, Caldwell became interested in politics, ultimately combining her passion for political science and her commitment to finding a cure for cancer. Now a political science major at George Washington University, Caldwell is determined to change laws to make health care and cancer treatments more affordable for those impacted by cancer.

Please help West Bay Rotary support local nonprofits

Sat, 12/12/2020 - 9:30pm West Bay Rotary is raising money to help three local nonprofits that help people in need.  Net proceeds from Lucky’s Christmas Vacation raffle will benefit the Camden Area Christian Food Pantry, One Less Worry, and the Shields Mission Project.   Raffle tickets are available online at westbayrotaryraffle.com and are $10 each or six tickets for $50, and the winner will receive a certificate for seven nights at the Vanderbilt Beach Resort in Naples, Florida.  The raffle winner will be drawn at the Christmas tree sale on December 20 th at 4 pm. Because of Covid-19, West Bay Rotary has had to cancel many of their fundraisers, so they have been finding creative new ways to help the community.  Although the annual Christmas tree fundraiser is still on and will help raise money for charities and nonprofits, it just seemed like more could be done.  West Bay Rotarian Ray Fink came up with the idea to have a raffle that would benefit local nonprofi
