UHS increases staff in response to COVID-19 vaccine eligibility expansion Lisi Ludwig/Senior Staff UC Berkeley has increased the amount of staff in University Health Services as the demand for COVID-19 vaccines expands. Campus offers the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to students at no cost. As vaccine eligibility has expanded to include California residents 16 years and older, UC Berkeley has increased clinical and administrative staff to University Health Services, or UHS, to accommodate the greater demand for vaccinations. In the process, UHS was able to reemploy campus staff who were on furlough or had been previously laid off to aid in administrative tasks such as working on the patient record system, scheduling appointments and completing check-ins. UHS has also partnered with the Berkeley Medical Reserve Corps to help monitor individuals during the 15-minute resting period after vaccination.

Vaccine Advisory Group OKs AstraZeneca Vaccine For Adults 65 and Over In a virtual news conference, federal health officials and representatives from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) discuss changes to recommendations concerning the administering of COVID-19 vaccines. NACI has expanded its age group for AstraZeneca vaccines to now include adults 65 years of age and older. Speaking with reporters are Dr. Caroline Quach-Thanh, chair of NACI; Dr. Matthew Tunis, executive secretary of NACI, and Dr. Marc Berthiaume, the director of the Bureau of Medical Science at Health Canada.
