Health Alert – U.S. Embassy Suva, Fiji (May 13, 2021) Location:  Fiji Event:  On May 12, the Fiji Ministry of Health announced nine new COVID cases in Fiji. Containment zone restrictions continue to be enforced in several parts of Fiji, including the Suva/Nausori area, Lami, Nadi, and Lautoka. Travel to and from these areas is not permitted. Limited exceptions are available in some medical cases. On May 12, officials announced several changes to curfew and movement restrictions: In Suva and Nausori, a 24-hour curfew will be enforced from 11 p.m. Friday (May 14) to 4 a.m. Tuesday (May 18). Across Viti Levu, curfew hours will expand to 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. nightly starting Saturday (May 15). In Suva and Nausori, the new hours will take effect at the end of the 24-hour weekend lockdown.

The directory provides a list of U.S. companies with expertise in business-to-business matchmaking, distribution, marketing, and biosecurity compliance who are eager to work in Fiji and other Pacific markets. The directory is follow-up from the March 2021 Direct Line virtual conference “Growing the Fiji Brand: U.S. Services Needed” that attracted dozens of companies from across the United States eager to help Pacific exporters thrive.

Home | News & Events | Fiji IT Specialists Learn to Counter North Korean Hackers SUVA – From March 24 through April 1, 37 cybersecurity professionals from Fiji’s private financial institutions, telecom companies, the Reserve Bank of Fiji, the Financial Intelligence Unit, and government ministries attended a virtual workshop on the latest trends on North Korea’s offensive hacking techniques. According to the United Nations, North Korea repeatedly targets Fiji with cyber-attacks to gain access to currency and launder money in violation of international sanctions. The workshop examined the tactics and techniques of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) hackers who attempt to steal funds for DPRK’s weapons of mass destruction program. The training was organized by the U.S. Embassy in Suva, the U.S. State Department’s Office of Cooperative Threat Reduction, the U.S.-based international training nonprofit CRDF Global, and the Australian tech firm Internet 2.0.
