A 40-year-old father of three who “smoked a joint” before trying to drive unlicensed over the Queensland border has copped a $350 fine for his efforts.
Darryl John Trommler, whose listed place of residence was Tin Can Bay, was pulled over at Texas by Queensland police who were patrolling the state’s border during a period of COVD-19 border restrictions on November 18 last year.
Gympie’s police prosecutor told the Gympie Magistrates Court the 40-year-old pulled out an 18-plus card as identification, and during the course of the interview, told officers he had “smoked a joint” only 30 minutes before arriving at the border.

When police spotted Quen Noa Aiono just before 2am, she was seen to get out of the driver s door of a silver Honda Civic in a Goodna street. When questioned, she immediately denied the offence. She was breath tested and found to be nearly three times the legal alcohol limit, with a reading of 0.130. Checks revealed that she had previously held a licence but this was suspended at the time due to her unpaid fines.

A driver with a chequered traffic history was caught driving by Gladstone police despite the fact his licence was suspended for speeding, a court heard.
Phillip Paul Nunns, 45, appeared in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle without driver s licence previous speeding >40km/h.
Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd read the facts of Nunn’s case to the court and Magistrate Bevan Manthey.
About 8.45pm on February 26, Nunns was intercepted driving a car on Dalrymple Dr, Toolooa.
When questioned, Nunns stated he was driving to go to his uncle’s house to see if his uncle could assist him with tyres for his car.

BRONCOS young gun Tesi Niu has been told to kerb his speed when off the field after getting busted driving unlicensed because of a pile of demerit points for speeding.
When 19-year-old Niu went before an Ipswich court on Friday morning, Magistrate Terry Duroux counted 18 demerit points against the Broncos player’s name.
The court heard Niu was on his way home from training when intercepted and charged.
As a result his licence suspension will stretch out for six more months.
Fanitesi Niu, 19, from Inala, pleaded guilty on Friday to driving when unlicensed due to the allocation of demerit points at Redbank Plains on Wednesday, February 10.
