UL Softball Downs South Alabama to Stay Unbeaten In SBC Tourney
The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns continued their postseason success in the 2021 college softball season on Thursday.
14th-ranked Louisiana defeated the South Alabama Jaguars, 10-3, on the third day of play in the Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship in Troy, Alabama.
Louisiana, the top-seed, has won the event 15 times in the 20 years of completed play.
The Cajuns, who have now won 26 of their last 30 games, reached the 40-win mark this year for the 22nd-consecutive season.
UL, who is now 63-9 in the event s history has appeared in the last six championship games and last captured the tournament title back in 2019 in San Marcos, Texas.
The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns will have to continue to add to their current softball win streak without the services of one of their top players, at least in the near future.
Louisiana head coach Gerry Glasco announced on Monday that shortstop Alissa Dalton recently suffered a hand injury that will require surgery.
The injury will keep Dalton out for an indefinite period of time with no timetable for her return.
A senior from Cypress, Texas, Dalton is a two-time preseason Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year.
This season, Dalton is hitting .378, second on the team, to go along three home runs, 21 runs batted in, and eight stolen bases, after hitting .290 with a homer and ten RBI s last season.
UL Softball Sweeps Doubleheader From Georgia St.
The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns continue to roll in Sun Belt Conference softball play.
16th-ranked Louisiana swept a doubleheader from the Georgia St. Panthers at Bob Heck Field in Decatur, Georgia on Friday. winning the first game, 10-2, before taking the second game, 4-0..
With the triumphs, the Cajuns extended their Sun Belt Conference series win streak to 60, a school and Sun Belt Conference record, as well as the longest current conference win streak in the nation.
Louisiana has not dropped a conference series since the weekend of St. Patrick s Day in 2013.
The doubleheader sweep over Georgia St. also extended UL s current win streak to nine games.
UL Softball Projected To Travel For Regional
The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns are projected to be part of a field of three in-state college softball teams for the 2021 NCAA Regionals.
Earlier this week, Hayden King of College Sports Madness projected Louisiana to play in the Baton Rouge Regional, along with LSU, Baylor, and Northwestern St.
Yeah; it s still early, with over half the season remaining, so you shouldn t buy too much into this quite yet.
That being said; projections are always fun to talk about, and these guys normally do a very good job of doing this kind of thing.
The Cajuns are currently 22-6, overall, and 8-1 in Sun Belt Conference play.
UL Softball Stays in Top 15 of Latest Major Poll
The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns remain in the top fifteen of one of the major college softball polls, after not playing a game last week.
Louisiana checks in at number 15 in this week s USA Today/NFCA Division I Coaches Poll, which was released on Tuesday.
UL, who is currently 13-4 on the season, was ranked number 14 in the poll last week.
The Cajuns were idle last week, after not playing any midweek games, before having their three-game Sun Belt Conference series against the Georgia Southern Eagles, scheduled for last weekend at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park, postponed, due to COVID-19 issues within the Georgia Southern program.
