UL Softball Falls to LSU in Regional Finals
The 2021 college season came to an end for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns on Sunday in an NCAA Regional.
14th-ranked Louisiana fell to the host school and top-seeded LSU Tigers, 8-5, in the if necessary game of the Baton Rouge Regional in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Sunday.
Louisiana forced a second game after defeating LSU, 2-0, in the first game between the two.
UL, who was playing in the Regional finals for the 13th-consecutive year, went 3-2 in the regional, after a 1-0 win in 11 innings over George Washington on Friday night, followed by a 10-3 setback to LSU on Saturday afternoon, as well as a 4-0 win over McNeese St. on Saturday night.

BATON ROUGE – Seventh-ranked LSU (35-20) took the winner-take-all game of the Baton Rouge Regional, 8-5, over UL-Lafayette (47-12) to win the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional and advance to a Super Regional for the ninth time in school history.
The win over the Ragin Cajuns marked the sixth straight Super Regional appearance and seventh under head coach
Beth Torina. The regional title was the 11th in school history.
LSU now moves on to the NCAA Super Regionals for the sixth straight season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Louisiana struck first as Ciara Bryan led off the game by taking a pitch from Ali Kilponen and sending it over the right field wall.
The Ragin’ Cajuns looked poised to score even more runs in the opening frame.
After Bryan’s homer, Kaitlyn Alderink drew a walk and then Jade Gortarez reached on a dropped fly ball in right field.
Justice Milz would strike out and then Alderink was caught stealing.
Kiponen would walk the next two batters (Alissa Dalton and Karly Heath) to load the bases. Kiponen would get out of the jam by striking out Kendall Talley.
