Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa UDUPI: With the budget session of the legislature scheduled to begin on February 28, chief minister BS Yediyurappa, who also holds the finance portfolio, on Tuesday said he will present the budget in the first week of March. Talk in official circles is that it will be presented on March 1 or 3. After a temple run in Udupi, Yediyurappa told reporters the size and structure of the budget are being discussed, keeping in mind the state’s finances, which have taken a beating due to the pandemic. He said he is gearing up to present a farmer-friendly budget to ensure all-round development of the state.

With the budget session of the state legislature scheduled to start from February 28, Yediyurappa who also holds the finance portfolio said discussions are presently on to structure the budget keeping in mind the finances of the state that has taken a beating due to the pandemic and also ensure all-round development of the state. Interacting with media after visiting Anegudde Sri Vinayaka Temple at Kumbashi near Udupi, Yediyurappa who earlier at Hejamadi too had hinted at a not so rosy financial picture of the state’s finances, said he will assess the situation before proceeding to present the budget. The only saving grace, the CM said is that the state had received bountiful rains during monsoon and this had helped (the farmers) in ensuring prosperity for the state.

This started with a visit to Udupi Sri Krishna Temple where he dedicated Vishwapatha, a new queue system for devotees to have darshan of Lord Krishna. Later, he participated in Brahmakalashotsava rituals at Sri Venkataramana Temple in Karamballi and performed gau pooja there. Like at Sri Krishna Temple, Yediyurappa at Karamballi said Karnataka has taken a firm step towards implementing the recent legislation on ‘anti-cow slaughter’ which received nod from the Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala after the government took to the ordinance route for it is yet to receive the nod from the State legislative council.
