A local challenge that combines the love for running and glazed donuts will return for the 11th year this weekend which will benefit the Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Alabama.
For the past eight years, hundreds of Krispy Kreme Challenge participants have run one mile through downtown Tuscaloosa, eaten a dozen doughnuts and raced back to the starting line, but the organization has decided this year’s event will be “the sweetest race we didn’t run.”
Organizers say that while COVID-19 concerns led to the decision not to invite runners to this year s Tuscaloosa Krispy Kreme Challenge, people are encouraged to make donations to the event s beneficiary, Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Alabama, an organization that pairs vulnerable children with mentors.
To support its mentoring programs, Big Brothers Big Sisters relies on donations and grants.
