It was a horrendous fire. Reporter leonard and his wife know all too well how quickly a fire can ignite. They lost their long time home two months ago in an electrical fire. We lost everything, everything, all our clothes, everything. The only thing we had was the clothes on our back. Were only one call away from a tragic event happening, so were on borrowed time. Reporter east Contra Costa County says theyre faced with so many fire emergencies they cant keep up. The Fire District covers 250 miles, more than 120,000 residents yet it has just three fire stations. Only nine firefighters are on duty at a time. At any given time when you call t 911 we have three resources working through a very dynamic system and they can be 10, 15, 20, to 25 minutes away. Reporter the Fire District is launching a Public Awareness campaign to let people know they need solutions. And when we examine the situation in Alameda County, we find that one in five residents experience or are at risk of hunger. In fact, about 119,000 are considered food insecure, and an addition 130,000 are marginally food secure. Addressing the need is a daunting task, and that is taken on by the Alameda County Community Food bank. Nice to see high oh, thank you all so much nice to see all of your faces today. Although this is our 13th annual summit. This is actually our 20th year of being a City Department here in San Francisco. So this is a big year for us. Um i dont believe i see him in the audience. But i did want to thank terence alan today for all of you that know him. Yes so terrence was a founding commissioner on the Entertainment Commission, and he had the vision in the early oughts to create this department. Um and really, um, find a way to strike a balance and find compatibility between nightlife , venues, neighbors and law enforcement. So thank you to terrence. Hopefully he is watching this somewhere.
