A limb came crashing down on the tent below killing two children. It was loud and snap and crack. It was immediate screaming and hollering and panicking. Reporter the two killed were sleeping in their tents when it happened. Tonight flowers in their place as park rangers try to determine what happened. They were kids. Thats tough. Reporter rangers arent saying how old the children were or where theyre from. They see trees are inspected but could not comment on whether this tree was checked. In this particular situation people were simply in a camp site here in upper pines. They were in a designated camp site. They were camping out just like people are doing right
Two children were killed when a massive oak tree limb fell on their tent. It happened at the Upper Pines Campground in the Yosemite Valley just west of curry village. The two children were asleep in their tent when at about 5 a. M. , the limb came crashing down. Video just in from the campsite shows how the limb sheared off. Police tape surround the tent and the tree now. Rangers say the campers never saw any danger. In this particular situation people were simply in a campsite here in upper pines. They were in a designated campsite. They were camping out just like, um, you know, people are doing right now. It makes me feel sad for the family and sad for the situation because its out of their control. One of the victims was with his family. The other was a family friend. Their identities have not been released yet. Reporter that video shows the chilling moments just before the homicide on lundy avenue from exactly a week ago. In that video, you can see the accused killers armed with tec 9 style weapons creeping around the corner. The victim runs into the suspects and puts his hands up. Police describe it as a horrific ambush. The suspects were running after and intimidating and terrorizing the victim. Reporter Police Identified two of the three men in the video as 29yearold Matthew Castillo and 40yearold richard jacquez. Police shot and killed castillo. Jacquez was chased by police.
