At least 36 people are known to have been killed by wildfires sweeping across hawaii. Large parts of the Tourist Town Of Lahaina on the Island Of Maui have been burned to the ground. This was the scene overnight, when flames spread rapidly, forcing some people to jump into the sea to escape. Daylight revealed devastation, with multiple areas burnt to the ground and the western side of the island almost cut off.
