Ladakh Buddhist Association celebrates Losar festival in Leh ANI | Updated: Dec 16, 2020 08:09 IST Leh (Ladakh) [India], December 16 (ANI): The youth wing of Ladakh Buddhist Association celebrated the Losar festival here on Tuesday. Losar is celebrated to mark the beginning of the new year of the Buddhist community. The festival started as a tradition during the supremacy of the ninth king of Tibet in the early 17th century when King Jamyang Namgyal decided to lead a war against the Baltistan forces in winter and ended up celebrating the festival in advance. Since then, the Losar festival is celebrated in the 11th month of the Tibetan calendar.

CEC, LAHDC, Kargil Feroze Ahmad Khan, MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgial, Dy. CEC, LAHDC Leh Tsering Angchuk, EC Agriculture, Stanzin Chosphel, EC Rural Tashi Namgyal, EC Minorities Ghulam Medhi, Commissioner Secretary Tourism, Rigzin Samphel, Director Tourism, Kunzes Angmo, Assistant Director Tourism Jigmet Namgial, Executive Director, LAMO Dr Monisha Ahmad, Ordained Dharmacharya Teacher Shantum Seth, Author James Crowden, former AD Tourism, Kargil, Ex-Director CIBS, Executive members of ALTOA and AKTTA, and prominent local scholars, writers and artists virtually attended the inaugural session.

Ladakh LG virtually inaugurates second edition of Ladakh Literature Festival 2020 AIR Pics Ladakh Lieutenant Governor R K Mathur virtually inaugurated the second edition of Ladakh Literature Festival, 2020, in Leh today. The three Day festival will host  a series of talks, importance of the region, ancient knowledge of Ladakh, Folk music, cultural Dance, geology and wildlife of Himalayas and several interesting topics on YouTube and Facebook streaming. On this occasion, Mr Mathur said, Ladakh and its rich culture have generated a vast and reassuring interest among the literature enthusiasts all over the world. He said that Ladakh having an amalgamation of different cultural influences from India, Central Asia and Tibet gives the region and its people a unique cultural identity.
