suited up and some of your colleagues said you re the guy now. we re going nowhere with kevin mccarthy and he endorsed a lot of what you said, could he get a yes vote from you? i m sure he will get some support. i can tell you, neil, what we need is dramatic change, transformational change. we need to undo the status quo. neil: so he s the status quo and he s not that change? again, we ll have a debate on the best candidate. i m sure there s differences of opinion. i think we need to have them come forward, make their presentation, let us vet them, let s debate the process, let s eliminate the one and take it to the floored and get it done for the american people. neil: just to be clear, among your 19 other colleagues, it s a round number, they would not be for steve scalise either as things stands now. i m not going to speak for
disappointing that confidences are betrayed about the details of internal meetings and it s it exemplifies washington, d.c. and the trust factor that is causing the impasse occurring before your eyes. there is a trust issue with the gentleman who wants to be speaker. you can reference his former boss, member of congress and what he says about kevin mccarthy. it is hard to restore trust in just a month or two and it s really hard when you betray confidences in a meeting where the details are then leaked out to the press. so, there is no agreement at this time. but i will tell you this. we are looking for transformational change in the swamp in d.c., does not work for the american people but for washington, d.c. and we are not going to leave until we have that. we are here to fight for the american people. everybody knows the town is broken, everybody knows it, nobody wants to do anything about it. this is our opportunity and we are going to take it.
it doesn t matter what you believe by the way, unless you re willing to take risk to yourself personally to fight for it. we need a leader who has proven to do that very thing. we have an opportunity to make history. we will live with the decision on this side of the aisle for the next two years. we will answer for how we voted. and i know how people in your respective districts, like mine, madam chair, all the respective districts, how they are telling you to vote. they have been telling me how to vote for three years. to vote for transformational change in our leadership of this republican party. they have told me not to vote for the status quo. not to vote for the next in line establishment creature of the swamp cartel. but to vote for transformational change. and they re watching us. they re wondering if we ll hang in there or will we cave? or will we give in or will we let them down one more time? and i say we re not going to do that. they re looking to us. [applause] look and see
