A Black, female-led running crew says the Boston Marathon’s organizer and a Massachusetts police department violated their civil rights when they were harassed during the 2023 race and were barricaded from cheering on runners, according to a new federal lawsuit.
A Black-led running club has filed a lawsuit against Boston Marathon organizers and the Newton Police Department over alleged racial discrimination that took place during last year's race. Lawyers for Civil Rights said in a release that TrailblazHers Run Co. wants to prevent further discrimination and "seeks redress for emotional distress and trauma caused by last year’s racial profiling incident."
A prominent Black-led running group filed a federal discrimination lawsuit against the Newton Police Department and the Boston Athletic Association, asking the court to enjoin racial profiling and harassment against the running group and its members.
