Thursday, July 1, 2021 In March 2021, the United States House of Representatives passed a pro-union bill, called Protecting the Right to Organize Act of 2021 (PRO Act). If enacted, the PRO Act shall amend several provisions of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) to provide new rights for labor unions and restrict certain existing rights for employers.[1] In India, the new labor codes are awaiting a notification on their effective date. Once effective, the labor codes introduce certain critical provisions in relation to labor unions (known as trade unions in India). Law in relation to labor union in India Article 19(1)(c) of the Constitution of India, 1950 (Constitution) envisages the fundamental right to ‘freedom of speech and expression’ and guarantees the right ‘to form associations or unions’ including unions.

Labour Ministry to collect Aadhaar details of informal workers for social security schemes Updated: Updated: No one will be denied benefits for want of Aadhaar, say Labour Secretary Share Article No one will be denied benefits for want of Aadhaar, say Labour Secretary The Ministry of Labour and Employment will soon start collecting the Aadhaar details of workers in the unorganised sector for implementation of future social security schemes, though no one will be denied benefits for the lack of Aadhaar, Labour Secretary Apurva Chandra said on Wednesday. The Ministry on Monday notified Section 142 of the Code on Social Security, 2020, which enables the government to collect Aadhaar data of workers for its national database of unorganised workers. The Code itself is yet to be implemented as the Rules framed under it have not been notified. Once implemented, the Code will allow social security benefits to be extended to the large unorganised sector, the government has said.
