A farmer from Pune s Junnar taluka, Maharashtra, claimed to have earned more than Rs 2.8 crore through tomato sales this year. Ishwar Gayakar, cultivating tomatoes on his 12-acre farm for six to seven years, remarked that his success came through hard work. He cultivated tomatoes on 12 acres, selling approximately 17,000 crates priced between Rs 770 to Rs 2311 per crate.

Tomato prices are set to increase by over ₹100 per kilo due to short supply, with a 15-kg crate selling for ₹1,100 in the Kolar wholesale APMC market. The lack of interest in tomato cultivation by farmers stems from a price crash in May, when rates sank to ₹3-5 per kg.
