Some families in St. Thomas and Elgin County are breathing a sigh of relief as the first children’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic was set up in the region Wednesday.

As of Sunday evening, 509,954 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the London area since the first shot was given at the Western Fair District Agriplex clinic Dec. 23, medical officer of health Chris Mackie said Monday.

The shots were given through mass vaccination sites, primary care, mobile clinics and pharmacies. More than 100,000 doses have been given in the last two weeks alone.
“It’s a truly tremendous task that really could only be done by all of the teams working together in the health-care sector, as well as all the people who came out and gave their arms to us to vaccinate,” Mackie said.
