The Thermopolis police sergeant who broke into a man’s home, triggered a shootout and killed the man had been cleared of other professional complaints one week prior, an investigative report says.
The town of Thermopolis experienced its first officer-involved shooting where a person s life was lost on April 28, Mayor Adam Estenson said in a statement Tuesday.
A special prosecutor has determined Thermopolis Police Sgt. Mike Mascorro was justified in killing a suspect in self-defense in April, but that he illegally broke into the man’s home to force their fatal shootout.
