The politicians in charge of Jackson, Mississippi have their hostility towards the Second Amendment abundantly clear over the past year. Mayor Chokwe Lumumba tried to impose a ban on openly carried firearms last year, claiming the state’s emergency powers provisions gave him the authority to do so, but a federal judge smacked down the ban shortly after it was imposed. Since then, there’s been a lot of finger-pointing from the mayor, city council, and local police on who’s to blame for the rise in violent crime. The Jackson Police Department recently told council members that officers are being forced to engage in “catch-and-release” arrests because the local jail is too full.

Seventeen-year-old Irina Gutierrez had been in America for three months, finally reunited with her mother, Starkishia Bolden, after 15 years. In November, Irina and her brother were finally able to come to America to join her family.
“She was my first child, my only daughter, my only daughter,” Bolden said. “The world lost an angel because you’ll probably never meet anyone that kind spirited. She wanted to be a model, she was beautiful. Um, and if not a model, she wanted to be a cardiologist or a veterinarian.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Snorty is an 18 year old quarter horse. He’s a ranch horse as well as an English hunt horse, and his owner Kylie Hogue is preparing him, along with her other horses, for the bitter cold.
Snorty and his friends are getting ready for the cold snap at Strong River Equine, where Hogue teaches horseback riding. While horses generally just need a good blanket and to be kept out of the direct elements, Hogue says you can tell when your horse starts to get cold.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Brandon patrolman Brad Martin has been a certified officer for about two months. Even with the criticism and scrutiny police deal with every day, there was never a question in his mind about what he was going to do with his life.
âI never wanted to be anything else. Honestly. My mom, she sent me a picture one time of me as a baby holding handcuffs,â he said. âI grew up around law enforcement and itâs something Iâve always wanted to do. So far itâs been everything I ever wanted.â
