This past week has been an eye-opening experience. A lot of Texans were without power for days, and many were without running water.
Being in the bitter cold with the temperatures down in the single digits for us Texans who are not used to it and a state that s not prepared for a winter storm of that magnitude, we had to go in survival mode.
I noticed during this natural disaster (as I want to call it) that so many people stepped up and helped their fellow Texans. Many provided a warm place to stay and get a good meal. I noticed on my social media that individuals opening their homes to strangers. I saw people getting out in the weather with their 4X4 trucks helping people get somewhere safe or bringing food and water to them. Some were even delivery fire wood.

With an ambulance stuck in the snow, Austin paramedics had to resort to warming a 98-year-old patient in a utility vehicle.
The photo is touching the hearts of Texans who are dealing with the rare snowfall and the dangerous effects that have come in the wake of the storm.
Canyon Lake resident Audrey Lucia shared the photo of her coworker, Austin paramedic Cole Turner, on her neighborhood Facebook page. The picture shows Turner cradling the patient in a warming blanket while sitting in the back of the vehicle borrowed from a neighbor, surrounded by snow.
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) Houstonians actively searching for COVID-19 vaccine appointments were surprised to find some availability rolling out at local pharmacies.
This bit of good news comes even as COVID-19 variants found in South Africa and United Kingdom are now confirmed to be in the Greater Houston region.
The Houston Health Department said the two cases of the UK variant were both men in their 50s. One of them traveled overseas in late December and into January, while travel info of the other case was not immediately disclosed. One of the men is in the hospital.
Meanwhile, Houstonians who have scoured the internet for vaccine appointments got some good news Monday.
