CLEMSON, S.C. – This semester, 23 Clemson student-athletes participated in the University Professional Internship and Co-op (UPIC) program, designed to provide experiences in the professional space that will assist students in their career paths both during and following their athletic career. Clemson Athletics recognized those individuals for their participation on April 14. Of the 23 interns this spring, 17 of them were first-time UPIC interns, earning valuable education in the workforce. The six returnees were Chloe O’Brien (Rowing), Keco Morrison (Track and Field), Trishauna Hemmings (Track and Field), Maylin Lindsey (Rowing), Pepper Kolman (Rowing) and Eleonor Wright (Rowing). The Rowing program had nine participants in UPIC internships, most of any program, followed by Track and Field (six), and Volleyball (three). Clemson’s Student-Athlete Development department celebrated its 20 UPIC Interns from the 2021 Spring Semester earlier this month as the semester came to a close. Clemson University’s University Professional Internship and Co-op Program (UPIC) has become a pillar of development for students to utilize during their time as a Tiger.Clemson’s student-athletes can transition into careers after sport thanks to ONE Clemson, an organization with the Clemson Alumni Association that serves as a donor to help fund the department’s student-athlete UPIC opportunities. Due to the unique nature of the 2021 Spring Semester, student-athletes had the chance to experience an in-person, virtual, or hybrid internship during the semester.This semester’s cohort was spread across 17 departments and featured members from seven of Clemson’s athletic teams. RALEIGH, N.C. The Clemson track and field program concluded competition at the 2021 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday evening after seeing its women’s team score 69 points to finish in a tie for fifth, and its men’s team score 65 points to finish in sixth. Saturday’s action saw Clemson capture two ACC titles at 800 meters, garner seven first-team All-ACC honors, and collect 12 second-team All-ACC accolades.
Kameron Jones became the best men’s 800m runner in Clemson history after setting a new school record of 1:45.47 en route to winning the event’s final on Saturday. In addition to the new school record, Jones also set a meet record and facility record while becoming the fastest collegiate athlete at the distance this season. The previous meet record stood at 1:46.66 and was held by Virginia’s Paul Ereng following his performance at the 1988 conference championships. OAKLAND, Calif., April 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Clemson University, the first school in the country faced with class actions by both its male and female student-athletes for violating Title IX by discriminating against them in different ways, has agreed to landmark settlements avoiding the suits. Clemson will reinstate its men s track & field and cross country teams; add a new women s varsity team; give men and women equal opportunities to participate; provide women with equal athletic financial aid, treatment, and benefits; work with an outside Monitor to develop a Gender Equity Plan; and bring all aspects of its intercollegiate athletics program into compliance with Title IX.
