LOCAL election candidates are to be questioned on their climate and environmental plans at an event next week. The candidates for Manningtree and the surrounding area will be scrutinised over how they plan to tackle a number of environmental issues. The event, hosted by Practical Actions for Climate and the Environment (PACE) Manningtree, will be hosted by former Essex Wildlife Trust chief executive John Hall MBE. Residents have been invited to join the free event, which starts at 7.45pm on Tuesday, and put their own questions to the candidates in attendance at the virtual meeting. PACE has a strong and growing volunteer work force and various practical projects underway in the area, such as food initiatives, tree planting and wildlife projects.

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – The Richland County Sheriff’s Department announced its first line of duty death due to COVID-19.
The department says Chaplain Terry Barrett, 69, died on Sunday at a hospital from complications due to COVID-19.
Barrett joined the department in January 1976, where he served in different capacities.
He later earned the rank of Lieutenant in Investigations where he retired from full active service.
Barrett continued his work as a Chaplain for the department, where he counseled deputies and offered support through difficult times.
According to the Post & Courier, Sheriff Leon Lott says Barrett’s wife is also hospitalized and seriously ill from the virus.
