The state Department of Human Services announced Tuesday it has helped 9,000 vulnerable Pennsylvanians get vaccinated. To promote equity and ease the access of the COVID-19 vaccine to Pennsylvanians, the department of human services partnered with the state’s community health choices managed care organizations.
Teresa Miller, secretary of the DHS, says their partnership creates direct access to vaccines for individuals who have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.
Since the beginning of the year, their goal has been to advocate for seniors and people with physical disabilities reaching over 350,000 people across the state.
Under this partnership, vaccination clinics were prioritized to those vulnerable individuals.
Officials say more than 1.6 million people over age 65 have received at least their first dose of the vaccine.
