PETALING JAYA: Selangor recorded the highest number of new Covid-19 infections with 415 cases from the country’s total of 1,510.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 326 of the cases were detected from the existing clusters and close contact screenings.
“Sarawak had 296 new cases while 171 were recorded in Kelantan. With 1,510 new cases, the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country is 359,117.
“Of the new cases, 1,505 cases were locally transmitted while five were imported cases.
“A total of 1,248 people have recovered, bringing the cumulative discharge cases to 342,737, ” he said yesterday.
Dr Noor Hisham said the total number of active cases in the country stood at 15,059 cases.
PETALING JAYA: Sarawak recorded the highest new daily Covid-19 cases with 555 as the country registered 1,854 new infections.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the cases in Sarawak, 417 were detected from existing clusters and close contact screenings.
“The increased cases in Sarawak is due to a rise in the number of clusters, including those in longhouses.
“The factors that contribute to the increase in cases are social and mass gatherings such as funerals, weddings and others, ” he said in a statement yesterday.
The country recorded seven new clusters of which four were linked to the workplace while the remaining three were from the community.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the cumulative discharge number now stood at 341,489 while there are still 14,805 active cases throughout the country.
On Sarawak recording its highest daily numbers so far with 555 cases, he said the increase is due to clusters and community infections including longhouses. The factors that contributed to the increase in cases are social and mass gathering activities such as funerals, weddings and others, he said in a statement.
Sarawak was followed by Selangor (403 cases) and Penang (176).
Of the country s new cases, 1,834 were locally transmitted while 20 were imported.
Of Friday s new cases, 58 were detected from prison and Immigration detention depot clusters namely the Jalan Harapan prison cluster (25 cases), Tembok Sri Aman cluster (three), Tembok Muhasabah cluster (13), Teluk Mas cluster (11), Pengkalan Chepa cluster (four), DTI Sepang cluster (one), and the Tembok Tapah cluster (one).
